What is meant by CADR?
CADR, Clean Air Delivery Rate, measures the amount of 100-percent clean air that the air cleaner produces in a room. The higher the CADR, the more clean air the air cleaner produces and the more effective it is.

CADR takes into account both the airflow through the air cleaner and the degree of filtration. The consumer can thus compare air cleaners that use different techniques. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of an air cleaner, you must take into account the combined effects of the degree of filtration and the airflow. An air cleaner that has a 99.97 % degree of filtration but has low air flow i.e that does not draw enough air through it, does little good. In the same way, an air cleaner that moves a lot of air but that has a poor degree of filtration also does little good.

Where should Electrolux Air cleaner be placed?
An air cleaner should be placed in the room in which you spend the most time, which often means the bedroom. You can also move Electrolux Air cleaner into the room where you happen to be. It should, however, not be used in a damp environment such as a bathroom.

Electrolux Air cleaner should be placed in the open, close to the middle of a wall. It should not be placed underneath a table or any other surface that could block the flow of clean air that blows out of the top of the unit. Electrolux Air cleaner can be placed either directly on the bare floor or on a carpet.

Can the filters be cleaned? How? How often?
Yes, you can clean both the pre-filters and the main filter. Inside the small filter door on the lower edge of Electrolux Air cleaner there are two lengthwise pre-filters. They are best cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Pull out the pre-filters one at a time and vacuum them with a small brush nozzle while you hold the filter out. Then push the filter back in place and close the door.

The main filter should also be vacuumed clean. Use the vacuum cleaner’s small brush nozzle on the underside of the filter. All the filters should be vacuumed every other month. Sensitive persons or persons living in urban or industry areas with bad air may need to vacuum the pre-filters more often.

How often should the filters be changed?
The pre-filters do not need to be changed, only cleaned. The main filter should be changed once a year.

How much electricity does Electrolux Air cleaner use?
Electrolux Air cleaner’s electrical consumption is very low. At the lowest speed, which is the speed at which the air cleaner should operate continuously, it uses 20 watts. This is equivalent to the smallest light bulb. At the middle speed it uses 30 watts and at the highest speed 70 watts.

Even at its highest speed, Electrolux Air cleaner does not use any more energy than an ordinary light bulb.

How large a room can Electrolux Air cleaner keep clean?
The recommendations of the Asthma and Allergy Association of Sweden are based on an 80% reduction of the particle concentration in the air. According to this, Electrolux Air cleaner can clean up to 26 m2. Noiselessly! At its highest speed (where the CADR is 330 m3 per hour), it can clean a room of 66 m2.

Do you need more than one air cleaner in a house?
An air cleaner has its greatest effect in the room where it is placed. It also cleans a portion of the air in other rooms. If you want maximum cleaning effect in more than one room, you should have an air cleaner in each of them.

How does Electrolux Air cleaner work?
A fan draws air in at the air cleaner´s lower edge, both front and back. First the air passes through a pre-filter. The largest dust particles are caught there. Then the air passes through an ionising unit where the particles are charged with positive ions. Then the air passes through the main filter, which consists of collector sheets of plastic-coated paper with positive and negative charge. A high voltage unit keeps the charge on the collector sheets constant. The electric field between the collector sheets causes the particles that were previously charged with positive ions to adhere to the negative collector sheets. The clean air flows upwards out of the air cleaner.

Why are electrostatic filters better than HEPA filters?
A good filter that removes particles from the air is not all that is needed for an air cleaner to be effective. The filter must also allow a large quantity of air to pass through it. Electrolux Air cleaner´s electrostatic paper filter has an open structure. A great deal of air can pass without causing noise. This is the reason that Electrolux Air cleaner works quietly even though it is so effective.

HEPA filters have an extremely tight weave and high air resistance. This means that the air must be forced through the filter. This uses a lot of energy and generates noise. As particles collect in a HEPA filter, the air resistance increases, which means that the quantity of air that is cleaned decreases.

Can you get an electric shock from Electrolux Air cleaner?
No, you cannot get electric shocks from it in normal handling. When you lift off the cover off the air cleaner, the current is switched off automatically as an extra safeguard.

Can a child poke its fingers into an Electrolux Air cleaner? Is it safe with children around?
Electrolux Air cleaner is tested and approved under the safety standards for home appliances in general (IEC 335-1) as well as under the special standards for air cleaners (IEC 335-2-65). If a child or an adult should poke a finger into a unit, he or she will not reach any dangerous parts.

What happens if I drop something into Electrolux Air cleaner?(A glass of milk, for example, or a coin).
If you spill liquid into the air cleaner, the motor can be damaged. Bring it in for service if liquid has entered. If a coin or other small objects falls in, it will fall down to the bottom of the air cleaner.

Will Electrolux Air cleaner pull in larger particles such as hairs?
An air cleaner will pull in only those particles that are light enough to remain airborne.

Does an air cleaner have to operate only when you´re at home?
No, for best results an air cleaner should run continuously, around the clock, because new dirty air is continually coming in from ventilation, for example.

What happens if you forget and leave Electrolux Air cleaner running when you go on vacation?
Nothing - it will operate as normal, continuously cleaning the air in your home. If the air cleaner for any reason turns over so that the cover falls of, the power is turned of automatically.

What happens if my cat or dog knocks over the air cleaner when I´m at work?
If the air cleaner turns over so that the cover falls off, the power is turned off automatically. If the cover stays on, nothing happens and the air cleaner operates as usual.

Does an air cleaner remove bacteria and viruses?
Yes, an air cleaner removes all sorts of particles from the air. Airborne microorganisms such as mold and fungus spores, viruses and bacteria occur partly as small free particles and partly in combinations, but they can also adhere to other particles.

Does Electrolux Air cleaner take away odors?
Odors are gases. The electrostatic paper filter only takes away particles. To be able to trap gases you need a carbon filter. Carbon filters is sold as a compliment to the Electrolux Air cleaner.

Will the air in the room get dry? Will I need a humidifier?
An air cleaner affects the air flow in a room in the same way that a fan does. It removes only particles from the air – not humidity. You therefore do not need to buy a humidifier just because you are using an air cleaner.

Does Electrolux Air cleaner release ions into the room?
No. The ionising unit in Electrolux Air cleaner contains two grids that keep ionisation confined to the machine. No ions are released into the room.

How long will Electrolux Air cleaner last?
Electrolux Air cleaner is built to last for 10 years under normal operating conditions.

I have heard that electrostatic air cleaners can generate ozone. Is that right?
Ozone is a gas that occurs naturally in the atmosphere. After a thunderstorm you may notice the smell of ozone, which makes the air smell fresh. The gas is generated by ultraviolet radiation and oxygen or by electricity.

Electrostatic air cleaners can, like many other electrical devices, generate a small quantity if ozone. However, the amount is extremely small and lies well below the limits that authorities have set. The level corresponds roughly to the normal background level outdoors. Ozone can be smelled, however, even at very low concentrations. It can be especially noticeable when the air cleaner´s filter is new.
